About the Librarian 1
Ms. Somattie Sayrange is currently a Librarian 1 at the University of Guyana Berbice Campus Library and has been working at the UGBCL for over 20 years as the Head of the Readers’ Services Division, which is the primary contact point with the library patrons and is the department responsible for assisting students with their search for information. As the Reader Services Division head, Ms. Sayrange plays a vital role in ensuring the library meets the informational and recreational needs of the University of Guyana community.
Ms. Sayrange ensures high-quality service to patrons, addressing their needs and inquiries and ensuring a positive experience at the library. She collaborates with other departments to ensure that the library’s collection meets the needs of its users, whether through acquisitions, maintenance, or proper organization. She ensures that the library space is conducive to learning.
Ms. Sayrange has updated, developed, and enforced policies related to borrowing, reservations, and using library resources, ensuring that the rules align with the library’s mission and user needs—organized and participated in programs, events, and outreach initiatives that engage readers and promote library resources. She has overseen the implementation and management of the integrated library system (Koha), other digital resources such as academic databases, and other online services.
Ms. Sayrange's research interests are information literacy and information-seeking behaviour. She co-authored research that won the Albertina Pérez de Rosa Award at the ACURIL Conference in Jamaica in 2023 and is pursuing a Doctorate in Education.
